The American Mafia was started in the 1920s, mostly due to prohibition. In the 1920s and 1930s there were mobsters that would traffic illegal alcohol. It was an organized crime network in in the United States but mostly in New York and Chicago. After the prohibition era, the mafia moved into other criminal ventures from drug trafficking and illegal gambling. The mafia was notorious for its violent crimes and secret rituals and despite racketeering laws the mafia is still operating today.
The book Gotti’s Rules is the story of John Alite, Junior Gotti, and the Demise of the American Mafia. A lot of the events in the story are told based on FBI files and exclusive interviews with insiders and experts, but mostly from former insider John Alite. The book talks about the encounters of John Alite, he spent a lot of time with the Gotti Family and his only purpose for being there was to keep Junior Gotti out of harm’s way. Alite discovered that the American Mafia, who claimed to be built on honor and loyalty, was really filled with greedy, viscous criminals. The events in the book are more detailed and told based on FBI files and interviews so the book is a lot more candid than the historical events. The historical events make John Gotti out to be a bad guy but Americans just can’t seem to get enough of the mob culture as seen in the movies. The book talks about the brutal crimes and the true nature of the mafia.
